He is a trained musician, specializing in the oboe and horn, hence the use of those on the albums (His father was head of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and his mother was a cellist). He was bought up in a classical music environment and incorporated that experience on the albums. Sure the albums wouldn't have had the same 'feel' to them without Axelrod's involvemnt.
